If the screen on your BlackBerry mobile device is too bright, forcing you to squint, you can dim it to make using the device more comfortable. Dimming the screen can also conserve power and extend battery life between charges. The brightness of the BlackBerry screen is controlled by the backlight function, and you can dim the screen from the BlackBerry's Options menu.

Instructions

  1. 1

Click the "Options" icon from the BlackBerry's home screen.

  2. 2

Select "Display" from the "Options" menu, then click "Screen Display."

  3. 3

Click the "Backlight Brightness" button and select a brightness of "80" or less from the drop-down menu. The lower the number you select, the dimmer the screen will be.

Tips and warnings

  • In Step 3, you can save more power by reducing the amount of time that elapses before the BlackBerry screen automatically switches off after use. Click the "Backlight Timeout" button and select your preferred time from the drop-down menu.
