As a freelancer on Elance, your reputation plays an important role in the quantity and quality of work you receive. Clients want to hire a provider who provides quality service. One way they determine this is through your provider level. Elance has a point system that affects your level as a provider. The points are based on criteria such as marketing, service delivery, and client relationship. All your activity is recorded on Elance, so they can accurately reflect your provider level. Poor performance can decrease your level and cause clients not to hire you. All providers begin at level 1, which increases according to performance. With a higher Elance score, your profile will appear near the top when the client searches keywords relevant to your skills.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Increase your marketing level, which is calculated over a six-month period. This is done by increasing the number of jobs you accept. Take and pass the skills tests relevant to your category. Verify the credentials listed on your profile, such as employment, schooling and special licensing. Doing these things will increase your trustworthiness with clients. When you bid on a project, bid within the client's budget range. Bidding below the budget decreases your level.

  2. 2

Increase your client relationship level, which is calculated over a 12-month period. Increase the number of clients you take on, and build relationships with them to ensure they choose to work with you on subsequent jobs. Doing this increases your repeat client rating, as well as your average earnings per client. Deliver quality work on time so the client will recommend you when they leave feedback for the job.

  3. 3

Increase your service delivery level, which is calculated over a six-month period. Increase your earnings by accepting more jobs and higher paying jobs. This will happen naturally as you increase your client base. If clients forget to leave feedback, send a reminder. Remember to submit weekly status reports on time. After you mark a status report complete, Elance will request that the client provide feedback. Use the tools provided by Elance to accept payment and send invoices. Communicate with clients via the workroom. Avoid violating Elance policies or having a client cancel a job due to poor performance.
