How to Download Music to iTunes Music

iTunes is a media player and library often used for managing songs and videos on your computer and iPod. Additionally, iTunes allows you to purchase new music and download it directly to your iTunes media library from the iTunes Store. You can access the iTunes store directly from within iTunes. Downloading songs from the iTunes Store requires you have an Apple ID account, which is simple to set up if you do not already have one.

Open iTunes on your computer by double-clicking the icon on the desktop or by choosing the program from your Start Menu.

Click "Store" in the file menu and select "Create Account."

Click "Continue." Place a checkmark next to "I have read and agree to these terms and conditions" to accept the license agreement, then click "Continue."

Enter your e-mail address, an account password, a security question, security question answer and your date of birth into the fields provided. Click "Continue."

Select your payment method -- Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover or PayPal -- and enter your credit card information or PayPal e-mail address. Enter your billing address into the fields provided. Click "Continue." Apple will not charge your credit card until you make a purchase from the iTunes Store. Apple will e-mail you a verification e-mail at the email address you supplied.

Access your e-mail account and locate the verification e-mail from Apple.

Click the link in the email you receive. A new Web page will appear. Enter your Apple ID and password into the available fields and click "Verify Address."

Open iTunes on your computer by double-clicking the icon on the desktop or by choosing the program from your Start Menu.

Click "iTunes Store" beneath the "iTunes" section on the left side of the window. Allow the iTunes Store to load in iTunes. Click the "Music" tab at the top of the window.

Locate the song or songs you want to download. You can select entire albums or only one song to download. Type the name of the song you want to download into the "Search" bar in the top-right corner of the window to search for a specific song or browse genres using the drop-down menu beneath the "Music" tab.

Click "Buy" next to the song you wish to buy or "Buy Album" next to any album you wish to buy. A pop-up window will appear. Note you can click "Play" next to a song to preview the song or album before purchasing it.

Enter your Apple ID into the "Apple ID" field in the pop-up window and associated account password into the "Password" field. Click "Buy."

iTunes will automatically start downloading the selected music and save it to your iTunes library.


Use your Apple ID to purchase apps for your iPhone or iPod Touch as well.


Apple will charge the credit card or PayPal account associated with your Apple ID when you make a purchase.
