Whether you are headed to an 80s theme party, looking to dress up in 80s attire for Halloween or simply looking to bring 80s style into your everyday life, the famously big and frizzy hair of the 80s should be the centrepiece of your ensemble. The 80s frizzy look is achievable no matter your hair length and can be easily created using many items you may already have in your hairdo arsenal. 1. 1

Wash your hair and allow it to air-dry until it is slightly damp. Air-drying your hair helps to encourage frizz that blow-drying and flat ironing can eliminate.

  2. 2

Spray hairspray or mousse onto the palms of your hand and work it through the roots of your hair, lifting the hair away from your scalp to begin to give it lift and body.

  3. 3

Coat your palms with more hairspray or mousse and work through the roots again, squeezing and pulling your hair to give it height as well as a tousled, crimped look.

  4. 4

Lift handfuls of your hair up from your scalp and blow dry from the roots out. Flip your head upside down to dry the roots underneath and to add volume.

  5. 5

Grab sections of your hair and hold them upright from your head. Comb the hair in each pulled section down towards your scalp using a fine toothed comb. This will give your hair a teased look.

  6. 6

Continue to pull sections of hair up from your head and teasing them down with the comb until all of your hair has been teased to achieve the classic 80s frizzy look.

Tips and warnings

  • If desired, finish hair by clamping it with a crimping iron to give it a polished, yet frizzy and wild, 80s style.
