Tri-fold display boards are used in schools to show classroom projects. Business organisations use tri-fold display boards to display statistics, new products and advertising. Decorating the surface of the display board with construction paper is done to frame important information and draw attention to specific details. Simple shapes make the most impact in presentations. Covering the entire tri-fold board with construction paper allows the information to be removed and the display board used for future presentations.

- Construction paper
- Glue or double-sided tape
Determine the theme for the tri-fold display cutouts. Gather the needed colour or colours of construction paper. For example, a Science project about plants will use all colours of construction paper to create the shapes for cutouts to cover the display board. A Science project about DNA will use red, blue and black construction paper.
Create a border on the outside edge of the three tri-fold patterns. Cut the border shapes 1 1/2- to 2-inches in width. Good border shapes are straight, wavy and zigzag. Glue or tape the border strips to the outside edge of the three panels.
Draw the determined cutout shapes on the chosen construction paper. Cut out the designs. Glue or tape the cutouts on the tri-fold display board.
For example, a Science project about plants will use 2- to 3-inch wide flower or leaf shapes. The shapes are drawn, cut out and glued or taped to the outside edge of the display board or between the displayed writing. Another option is to cut very large flowers or leaves from construction paper and write pertinent information directly on the construction paper. The cutouts are then glued or taped into the desired location on the display board.
Cut out and place the typed or written information on white paper. Place the white paper cutouts on top of a piece of construction paper. Glue or tape the writing to the construction paper leaving a minimum of a 1/2-inch border around the outside edges. Cut out around the white paper leaving a 1/2-inch border of construction paper. Glue or tape the construction paper to the tri-fold display board.
