Windows allows you to create a password reset disk in case you forget your password. You need a password reset disk to reset your password if you forget it. The only way to recover from such an issue is reinstalling Windows. The password reset disk is created as a part of disaster recovery. The disk logs you in to Windows and allows you to change the forgotten password for your profile.

    Boot your computer to the login screen. Choose your user profile from the choice of user accounts. Insert the password reset disk in the drive.

    Type any password in the "Password" text box and press "Enter." Windows displays an error window that tells you the password is incorrect.

    Click "Reset password" to start the reset wizard. The reset disk logs you in to the computer. In the next window, type your new password value. Click "OK." Windows changes your forgotten password, and you use this new value to log in to your computer.
