My Recliner Is Too Low, How Can I Raise It?

The most important factor of a reclining chair is its comfort level. If you sit in the recliner and you're comfortable, ultimately you've purchased a good chair. However, depending on your height and your personal preference, you may find that your recliner sits a little too close to the ground. This doesn't mean that you have to throw out a perfectly good chair, as you can raise it up off the ground in a few minutes.

  1. 1

Purchase furniture risers specifically made for a reclining chair. Furniture risers connect to the legs of your recliner, allowing you to raise its height in a few different inch increments. However, furniture risers are also made for regular chairs and stools. Purchasing furniture risers made for a smaller or lighter type of chair may result in the risers breaking if you try to use them on a heavier recliner.

  2. 2

Turn your reclining chair on its side, giving you access to each of its four legs.

  3. 3

Attach your furniture risers to each of the legs on the bottom of your reclining chair. How you do this depends on the risers you have purchased. For example, some risers just slip right onto the legs of the chair, while others must be screwed onto the legs of the chair.

  4. 4

Adjust all of your risers so that they are extended to the same height (if applicable). For example, if you've decided you want to raise your recliner by 5 inches, extend each of the four recliner risers to the "5 inch" mark on their base. Certain risers can not be extended at all. These are typically circular rubber risers that are purchased in the height you're trying to extend your chair to.

  5. 5

Place your chair back into its normal position so it is resting on the four chair risers you have just installed. You will now be able to sit in your chair and recline at a height that is most comfortable to you. If you determine that your chair is still too low or it is now too high, you can turn the chair back on its side and manually adjust the height of the risers to match your needs (if applicable).
