Use a voice changer. If you are using a mobile phone that allows you to use applications, you can install a voice changing application that will alter your voice. Some such applications include Voice Changer Plus for iPhone, the Sonic Vox Realtime Voice Changer for iPhone and Android, or Bluff My Call for Blackberry. Other external devices also exist that will have the same effect.
Use pre-recorded clips from an online soundboard. Some websites have collections of audio clips called soundboards--these boards have easily clickable words and phrases from different celebrities and movies you can use to replace your voice. Press the clip and hold up the phone to the speaker to fool the recipient of your call.
Inhale helium to alter the pitch of your voice. When inhaled, helium has the ability to increase the speed of sound in your voice, making you sound like a high-pitched chipmunk. However, this will only work for a short period of time before your voice returns to normal. Always take precaution if you choose to inhale helium--it should not be inhaled as a regular means to change your voice.
Listen to clips of someone who has a different accent and practice the accent. Putting on an accent is one of the easiest ways to change your voice without the use of any tools or props. Practice an accent before making the call so you sound more convincing.
Tips and warnings
- Never inhale helium from a high pressure tank. When you inhale large quantities of high pressure helium you are put at risk for lung damage, stroke-like symptoms and possibly death.
