A towel bar can be a functional addition to your bathroom. For example, you can use the towel bar to place a large towel before or after showering, or you can install a smaller towel rod to place a towel used to dry off hands and faces when washing up at the sink. No matter what size you use, you will have to make sure the towel rod is firmly glued to the ceramic tile on the wall.

Use a cloth and denatured alcohol to clean the area of the ceramic tile where you're planning to glue the towel rod. This ensures that no dirt or debris will get in the way of gluing the rod. Make sure the area is completely dry before gluing the towel rod in place.

Add a bead of 100-percent silicone caulk to the perimeter of the side of the towel rod that will be pressed against the ceramic tile. Start with the just one half of the towel rod. The silicone caulk will act as the glue.

Push the half of the towel rod in place on the wall. Hold for several seconds. Then, apply masking tape to the top of the piece to keep it from slipping.

Place the actual rod into the piece you already glued to the wall. Apply caulk to the other piece. Slip the towel rod into it and then press it against the wall as you did the first side. Hold it in place with masking tape.

Allow the caulk to set for at least an hour. Then, caulk all around the perimeter of each of the towel rod pieces that is not covered by masking tape. Smooth the edges of the caulk with a damp cloth for a better appearance.

Wait until the next day to remove the masking take, then add a line of caulk to the top edge of the towel rod pieces. Smooth it over with a damp cloth as you did the other edges.
