How to Fix Your Listening Port on Bit Commet From Yellow to Green

BitComet is a torrent downloading program. Torrents are special files that allow the downloader to receive parts of the selected file from an unlimited number of sources at the same time. If your status light on the download screen is yellow, you must fix your listening port and port forwarding options to make it turn green. A green light means that your BitComet is optimised to achieve maximum download velocity.

Open the "Network and Sharing Center." Click "Start" and type "Network and Sharing Center" (without the quotation marks) in the search field. Click the link that appears in the results.

Click "Manage network connections."

Right-click the network connection currently in use. The choices are Wi-Fi and LAN. The connection that does not have the red "X" is the correct one. Select "Properties" from the contextual menu.

Click "Internet Protocol version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" in the selection box. Click the "Properties" button.

Click the radio buttons beside "Use the following IP address" and "Use the following DNS server addresses."

Click the "Start" menu and select "Run." Type "cmd" (without the quotation marks). Type "ipconfig /all" (without the quotation marks) in the new window.

Drag the command prompt window beside the TCP/IP properties window. Scroll through the information in the command prompt window and copy the numbers you see to the empty fields in the TCP/IP properties window. The required fields are IP address, subnet mask, default gateway and DNS information.

Click "OK" twice to complete the process.

Launch BitComet from the desktop shortcut or the "Start" menu.

Click the "Tools" menu and select "Options." Click "Connections."

Change the number in the "Listen Port" field to any number between 49152 and 65534.

Exit BitComet once you have completed all of the steps. Launch BitComet again and the status light is green.
