How to Make BgInfo Update Automatically

Updated July 20, 2017

BgInfo is a Microsoft utility that can be used to show system statistics on the desktop. This is particularly useful if you often need access to information such as the IP address, memory available or system information. If you need to use this program a lot, then you can set it to start up automatically with your computer, and also update automatically without the dialogue box involvement. Both of these configurations only need to be done once.

Click "Start > All Programs," then right-click the "Startup" folder and click "Explore."

Click "Start," type "bginfo" (without quotes) in the search bar and wait for the link to appear. Right-click the link and click "Open Containing Folder." Right-click "BgInfo" and click "Create Shortcut." Select the shortcut, and then press "Ctrl + C." Select the "Startup" window and press "Ctrl + V" to paste the shortcut.

Right-click the shortcut and click "Properties." Select the shortcut path field and scroll to the far right of the field. After the location shortcut (this will be in quotation marks), type "/timer:0" (without quotes) at the end. Click "OK." This sets the timer to be disabled, and the information to automatically update with no involvement.
