Motorcycle centre stands are designed to provide support to a motorcycle underneath its engine block. Motorcycles under 600cc tend not to be that heavy, however, street bikes over 700cc can be very heavy. Therefore, when building a stand, one should know the weight of their motorcycle, as well as the strength of their materials. Center stands for motorcycles can be made out of wood very inexpensively. However, the wood that is chosen should be without cracks or splits, and have no signs of rotting.

Things you need
- Tape measure
- 3 pine boards, 2-by-10-by-36-inches
- Screw gun
- Drill bit, 3/4-inch
- Drill bit, 1-inch
- Metal rod, with threaded end, 3/4-by-36-inches
- End cap, 3/4-inch
- 24 wood screws, 3-inch
- Carpet, 32-by-32-inches
- Staple gun
Lay two pine boards on top of each other so the edges are flush. Screw the boards together using 12 screws. There should be a row of 6 screws, 1 inch away from each 36-inch edge, and spaced 6 inches apart. Flip the boards over so the bottom board is now on top, and repeat the process using your last board. All of these boards edges must be flush.
Drill a 3/4-inch hole through all three boards. The hole must be 3 inches away from one of the 10-inch ends, and centred 4 ¾ inches from each 36-inch edge. Drill a 1-inch hole that is ½-inch deep in one end of the first hole.
Position your metal rod in the hole so the threaded end is on the side that has the 1-inch hole. Screw the end cap on the rod. This rod is for leverage when lifting your bike on to the stand.
Wrap your carpet around the set of boards. One of the edges of the carpet should be against the rod, with the opposite edge 2 inches away from the ends of the boards. Staple the carpet to the boards.
Place the boards underneath your engine block with the boards laying flat, and the rod positioned vertically. Pull down on the rod towards the back tire until it is horizontal to lift your bike onto the stand.
