How to Install Original Side Steps in a Land Rover Defender 90

Updated April 17, 2017

The original side steps on a Land Rover Defender 90 were designed for ease of installation and removal, since you just never know what awaits you in your off-road adventures. The side steps provide an easy step to reach the cargo carrier on the Defender 90s roof as well as an extra foothold between the floor of the Land Rover and uncertain terrain below. Those with basic mechanical aptitude and 25 minutes of free time can install these original side steps on their Land Rover Defender 90.

Climb under the driver side of the Defender 90 with the left hand side step. Loosen the mounting bolts in the mounting brackets, located just behind the front wheel and just in front of the rear wheel, using your socket set.

Lift the Defender 90s original left-hand side step and hang it onto the mounting bolts on the front and rear mounting brackets.

Tighten the mounting bolts using the socket set.

Move to the passenger side and repeat the first three steps to install the Defender 90s right side step.
