Meeting your girlfriend's parents or attending a job interview can take a downward spiral if the smell of liquor is on your breath or skin. If you find yourself in a situation where it's necessary to alleviate the smell of alcohol from your pores or breath because of impending work or social engagements, there are a few things you can try to make yourself feel and smell more presentable.
Have an early morning workout. It may be possible to remove toxins from your body through excess perspiration.
Drink plenty of water. This will help replace the fluid that you lost during your morning workout, and it will also help your kidneys and liver to flush toxins and waste from your system.
Shower and wash your hair. Odour-causing bacteria that is normally present on your skin and in your pores may be worse after alcohol consumption. Remove dead skin cells by using deodorant soap together with either a gentle brush or exfoliating gloves. Scrub your body all over in a light circular motion.
Apply an antiperspirant that contains zinc or aluminium, since both elements battle odour-causing bacteria.
Brush your teeth and tongue. Take a little longer than you usually do to be sure that you remove as much odour-causing bacteria from your teeth and mouth as possible. Floss your teeth and then gargle with a strong antibacterial mouthwash.
Wear some body fragrance to help cover the alcohol smell, but don't overdo it since most people find too much cologne or perfume overwhelming. If possible, select a fragrance or aftershave that has a clean citrus or soapy smell.
Toss some small breath mints or minty gum in your pocket to use throughout the day. Don't chew the same piece of gum for hours and hours because gum quickly loses its flavour and smell. You will need to refresh every hour or so.
