A garter belt is a piece of lingerie that is usually worn under your skirt or dress. Brides often wear garter belts on their wedding day. The original purpose of wearing a garter belt was to hold up stockings. Now they are often worn as an accessory. Before you make a garter belt, be sure to measure the distance around your thigh to get the right fit.

Instructions

  1. 1

Turn the fabric over so the inside is facing up and fold in half lengthwise. Inset pins along the outer, open edge of the fabric.

  2. 2

Sew the fabric together on a sewing machine using matching thread. Remove the pins.

  3. 3

Turn the fabric piece inside out so the correct side is facing out.

  4. 4

Position the seam in the middle of the fabric piece and iron the ends to create two creases.

  5. 5

Sew the lace onto the inside bottom edge of the fabric. The seam will be hidden, as this is the part of the garter that will rest against the leg.

  6. 6

Slide the elastic inside the fabric. Put the garter belt around your thigh and cut the elastic piece where you have a comfortable fit.

  7. 7

Sew the edges of the elastic together on the sewing machine.

  8. 8

Sew the fabric ends together using a needle and thread.
