Sheds of any form are heavy and will remain stable without the aid of anchors initially. However, high winds or storms can cause an unanchored shed to shift or topple. Anchoring a shed to a concrete slab provides the optimum situation for a stable outdoor structure. Metal sheds have a base board through which anchor screws are drilled, and wood sheds have a wood base board where holes can be drilled for the same purpose.
Mark any predrilled holes in the base boards of metal sheds onto the concrete pad with a marker.
Drill holes every 18 inches with a 1/4-inch drill bit into the wood base boards of a wood shed. Mark the location of the holes on the concrete pad.
Slide the shed out of the way slightly to gain access to the marks. Drill pilot holes with a hammer drill and a masonry drill bit, which is included with the purchase of concrete anchors. The package of anchors will detail the minimum depth for the holes.
Position the shed over the pilot holes in the ground, aligning the pilot holes with the holes in the base boards. Thread a washer onto each expandable concrete anchor screw. Drop the screws through the holes in the baseboards and into the pilot holes.
Expand the anchor screws by driving them into the pilot holes with a screwdriver drill bit and the drill. The sides of the anchor screws will grasp the concrete, providing the proper anchorage.
