Flecktarn is a specific pattern of camoflauge, developed in Germany for use by the German military. It is used by the militaries of several countries today. It works best in wooded terrain in the spring or summer. Flecktarn patterns typically consist of four or five colours, although three- or six-color flecktarn does exist. The pattern is based on using rounded splotches and dots of colour, and using the darkest colour to break up any long lines in the pattern. Flecktarn can also be painted to blend in with autumn or desert terrain.

Spray your item with two to three coats of water-based grey primer, allowing to dry for at least an hour between coats. Allow to dry for 2-3 hours after the final coat before touching.

Paint irregular-shaped rounded splotches in the lightest green with a rounded bristle brush. These splotches should resemble paint spills, and cover approximately 25 per cent of your item.

Paint similar splotches slightly overlapping these with the medium green shade of paint. This paint, when paired with the light green, should cover approximately half of the surface of the item.

Add the brown paint, and then the darkest green in similar fashion, using rounded irregular shapes that overlap the previous colours. All of your grey primer coat should now be covered in paint.

Paint smaller black dots on the item, first anywhere there are long lines of a colour then randomly until they cover between 10 per cent and 15 per cent of the surface area. Allow the paint to dry for at least an hour.

Spray matt acrylic sealant or clear coat on the item, holding the can 6 to 8 inches from the surface. Cover the entire painted area. Allow to dry for one hour, and apply a second coat. Allow to dry before handling.
