Ready Cut rugs look like shag rugs. (rug making image by Alison Bowden from

Ready-Cut rug kits are a brand of latch hook rug kits that can be found at craft supply shops. Your rug is completed by using a hand tool to hook precut pieces of yarn into a printed mesh canvas. A finished Ready-Cut rug kit will make a rug that looks similar to a shag rug, and can be used as a wall hanging or a floor rug. One benefit of using a Ready-Cut rug is that the yarn is already cut to the perfect lengths. You use different coloured yarns to create patterns and images on the rug.

  1. 1

Place a Ready-Cut woven rug mat onto a flat surface. The mat resembles a fibre mesh that is printed with a colour pattern matching the yarn you will use.

  2. 2

Insert a latch hook end into one of the threads of the woven mat.

  3. 3

Loop a piece of yarn around the hook of the latch hook tool.

  4. 4

Close the latch, and pull the yarn through the woven mat. Repeat this process with each thread of the rug mat to create the rug.

  5. 5

Cut a piece of linen fabric to measure the size of your rug, adding on about 5 cm (2 inches) around the perimeter.

  6. 6

Place the rug face up on top of the linen fabric. Adjust the rug into the centre of the fabric.

  7. 7

Turn the edges of the fabric over twice, then pin the rolled fabric edges onto the edges of the rug.

  8. 8

Sew around the perimeter of the rug to bind the backing and edges.
