How to clean stains or paint off laminate floors

Updated February 21, 2017

Laminate flooring is a synthetic type of flooring that looks like hard wood. Although laminate floors are durable and usually stain resistant, accidents do occur in any household, and paint or wood stains can leave a lasting mark on your flooring. But with the proper cleaning solution and technique, you can remove stains or paint from your laminate flooring.

Wipe up any fresh paint or stain with a clean, soft cloth immediately. Don't wait for the paint or stain to dry or set on the floor.

Spray a paint or stain remover product onto the area where the paint or stain spill has dried. Make sure you use a product that is specifically designated for the type of spill that you have on the floor. Don't try to remove a paint spot with a stain-removal product.

Wait five to 10 minutes while the removal product sets on the spill. Follow the product recommendations.

Wipe the area with a clean, soft cloth until the paint or stain is gone.

Finish with a floor cleaner specifically designed for laminate flooring, but avoid washing the floor with soap and water, which could damage the floor.
