Homemade Carpet Cleaning Powder

Combine the cleaning power of baking soda with the antibacterial properties of tea tree essential oil into a homemade carpet cleaning and freshening powder. Store the powder in a canning jar turned shaker and use whenever your vacuum.

Use a ice pick or screw driver to make several holes through the lid of a quart-sized canning jar. Set aside.

Pour 2 cups baking soda in the canning jar. Add 20 drops tea tree essential oil. Stir the mixture well with a wooden spoon.

Cap the jar with the lid you put holes through. Sprinkle the mixture lightly over your carpeting. Let sit for at least fifteen minutes. The baking soda soaks up any dampness, lifts dirt and absorbs odours while the essential oil helps with deodorising and has antibacterial properties.

Vacuum the powder up. Unscrew the jar lid and cover the top with a square of cling film, then recap for storage without the mixture spilling out of the holes.
