A ceiling fan is often accompanied by a lighting module, either already attached to the fan or provided as a kit for a home assembly. A broken socket in one of the lamp modules will prevent the flow of electricity to the light bulb placed inside. You can replace the socket so the lamp module will function correctly. A few tools are needed, as is the knowledge of which circuit in your fuse box will disconnect the flow of electricity to the ceiling fan.
Stand a ladder beneath the ceiling fan. Turn the ceiling fan off with a wall switch, if one is being used, or by pulling a cord attached to the fan. Remove the fuse or trip the circuit in the fuse box that allows electricity to flow to the fan.
Hold the lamp module with one hand where the word "Press" is printed on the side. If there is no word printed on the module, place your hand on the module where the screw is located. Hold needle-nose pliers in the other hand.
Remove the side screw from the lamp module with a Phillips screwdriver. Grip an edge of the socket inside the lamp module with the jaws of the needle-nose pliers. Squeeze the sides of the lamp module while pulling the socket out with the pliers.
Unscrew the two wires from the back of the socket with the Phillips screwdriver. Remove the side screw with the Phillips screwdriver. Rotate the broken socket counterclockwise to separate it from the porcelain base. Pull the socket out of its cardboard tube. Dispose of the socket in the trash.
Loosen the two screws on the bottom of the replacement socket with the Phillips screwdriver. Fasten the two wires onto the screws in the same way as that of the original socket.
Push the replacement socket into the cardboard tube. Place the cardboard tube into the porcelain base with a clockwise rotation.
Squeeze the sides of the lamp module while pushing the porcelain base back in. Release the sides of the module. Drive the side screw back in.
Return the fuse to the fuse box or trip the circuit breaker to restore electricity to the ceiling fan.
You can plug a lamp into a wall outlet on the same circuit (area) as that of the fan to verify that there is no electricity going to the ceiling fan
