Children enjoy making crafts that they can use during pretend play, such as a toy snake. One way to make a snake craft even more beneficial is to make it out of materials that would ordinarily be thrown away, such as bottle caps. You can paint bottle caps with acrylic paint, poke a hole into each cap, and then string the used bottle capes into a chain to create a whimsical, playful snake.

  1. 1

Paint the tops of bottle caps with acrylic paint, then allow the paint to dry.

  2. 2

Hammer a nail through the middle of each bottle cap to make a hole.

  3. 3

Cut a piece of twine to measure 12 inches long.

  4. 4

Knot the end of the twine, then thread it through the bottle caps. Make sure that the caps are all facing the same direction.

  5. 5

Knot the other end of the twine once all of the bottle caps are strung into a chain. Leave about 1 inch of twine at the end of the knot.

  6. 6

Paint the end of the twine red. This will be the snake's tongue.

  7. 7

Paint a snake's face on the first bottle cap. Allow the paint to dry before playing with the bottle cap snake chain.
