How to Run a Game on the PCSX2

PCSX2 is a Sony PS2 emulator that, at the time of writing, is under development, but is capable of playing retail PS2 games from a computer's DVD drive. An emulator is a computer program that uses software instead of hardware to play games that otherwise need proprietary hardware to run.

Instructions

    Download and install PCSX2 for your particular operating system/platform from the PCSX2 website (see Resources). PCSX2 is available for Windows, OS X and Linux platforms.

    Insert your PS2 game into the computer's DVD disk drive and close the drive. Click the "Config" button on the topline menu of PCSX2. Click "Configuration" from menu that comes up.

    Click the "Cdvdrom" button on the main configuration window and select the "Gigaherz CDVD" plugin. Click the "OK" button to save the settings.

    Click the "File" button on the topline menu and click the "Run CD/DVD" option from the menu that appears. PCSX2 loads the PS2 game from your computer's disk drive. From here, use the keyboard to control the game.

Tips and warnings

  • PCSX2 can only play legally purchased games.
