You use an Apple ID to access Apple resources that require you to identify yourself, such as registering Apple products, making a reservation to speak with an expert at an Apple Store's Genius Bar, using Apple's online support and making purchases at the Apple Online Store and the iTunes store. You don't need to enter credit card information to make an Apple ID. All you need to supply is your name and contact information. Later, if you want to use your Apple ID to make purchases, you will need to update it with payment information.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Go to Apple's "My Apple ID" website.

  2. 2

Type your e-mail address in the "Apple ID" box. Apple will use your e-mail address as your Apple ID.

  3. 3

Type a password in the "Password" box, and then type it again in the "Confirm Password" box.

  4. 4

Click on the "Security Question" pull-down menu to select a security question and then type in the answer in the "Answer" box.

  5. 5

Click on the pull-down menus to select the month, date and year of your birth date.

  6. 6

Type your name, address and preferred language in the designated boxes. Click on the "Contact Preferences" check boxes to indicate whether you want to receive communication from Apple in the form of e-mail, mail and newsletters.

  7. 7

Type the security characters that you see depicted in the image at the bottom of the page into the box below it and then click on "Create Apple ID."
