How to Program a BMW Master Key

Updated March 17, 2017

BMW vehicles come with wireless remote entry systems. The BMW dealer will provide you with two keyless entry remotes at the time of purchase. The vehicle owner can program additional remotes or have them programmed at the dealership for a fee. Programming instructions may differ slightly based on the BMW vehicle model. Refer to the vehicle manual if you experience difficulty programming a key fob or need further instructions.

Sit in the driver's side of the vehicle. Close the doors, boot and bonnet.

Open the boot door. Open and close the driver's door.

Put the key in the ignition and turn the key on and off five times. Don't start the engine. Listen for the alarm to chirp to signal that the programming mode is active.

Open and close the driver's door. Press any button on the remote you want to program. The alarm light will flash to indicate the remote was programmed.

Close the boot door. Then close the driver's door. Listen for the alarm to confirm that you have exited the program mode.
