How to Check the Firmware Level on iSeries

Updated February 21, 2017

The iSeries is a type of computer server manufactured by IBM. These servers are designed for both personal and home use, depending on the current needs of the user. The firmware is the software that runs the device--it operates under the same concept as an operating system in that regard. To view the current level of your iSeries firmware, you can use native tools.

Turn on your iSeries server. The first thing you see on your computer monitor will be your HMC, which is short for "Hardware Management Console."

Click "Updates."

Look at the number listed in the "EC Number" section of the window on screen. This is the current firmware level for your iSeries computer server.
