Role playing games are games that let a player take on the role of a character or a group of characters. They must manage traits of the characters' personalities, such as their strength, their charisma and their fighting abilities. They earn experience points by travelling around a world and fighting enemies, exploring caves and finishing missions. You can make an RPG game in Flash CS4. You'll need to download the program, learn how to program using ActionScript, design your game and create a world for your characters to explore.

Instructions

  1. 1

Download Flash CS4 from the Adobe website and learn how to program using ActionScript. Online tutorial websites can help you learn how to animate and program your game.

  2. 2

Design your gaming world using your pencils, paper and coloured pencils. RPG games have vast worlds to explore and you must design each element of this world carefully. Choose a world that will draw a player in, such as an ancient fantasy element or a futuristic world.

You must also write your RPG story, as well as the names of the characters, the types of traits that they will be able to use and every other aspect of RPG gaming. Your game should be completely designed on paper before you try to program anything.

  3. 3

Begin designing your animation and visual elements using ActionScript, the programming language for Flash CS4. ActionScript is a "frame by frame" animation method, meaning that you must animate each moment of the game. Visual elements include character designs, movements, backgrounds and all other visual elements of your gaming world.

  4. 4

Check your animations to ensure that they have no errors in animation or design. Even a very small design mistake in ActionScript will look poor when the game runs. Fix these errors in ActionScript.

  5. 5

Program all of your gaming elements into your game using ActionScript. Gaming elements include character control and traits, the storyline and all other elements of the game. Everything that you designed in your written notes should be integrated into your game.

  6. 6

Play test your game to make sure all programming errors in ActionScript have been caught. Fix these errors and load your game to a gaming website so that others can play it.
