The KitchenAid food processor is a well-known brand name tool that can save you significant time in the kitchen when it comes to chopping, mixing and kneading. If you find your machine won't work when you turn it on, you may need to put your apron aside and put on your thinking cap to troubleshoot. Use extreme caution when examining your KitchenAid food processor to avoid injury -- the blades are very sharp.
Check that you've plugged in your KitchenAid food processor if you turn it on and nothing happens. The manufacturer's operation manual urges users to leave the appliance unplugged while assembling the required parts; it's possible that you've forgotten to plug it into the outlet before turning on the machine.
Test your electrical sockets to ensure they are operating normally. Plug in a different appliance and turn it on; if it works and the food processor still doesn't, you'll know your outlets are functioning. If other appliances plugged into the same outlet don't turn on, check your fuse box or circuit breaker to see if you've blown a fuse or tripped a circuit.
Examine the work bowl and the lid of the KitchenAid food processor to determine whether they are locked into place properly. The machine will not turn on if either component is too loose or jammed into place incorrectly. Take each piece off of the base and relock into position. The work bowl handle should be slightly left of centre before you turn it to the right to lock. The lid's feed tube neutral position is left of the handle; turn to the right to lock into place.
Take the shredding or slicing disk out of the machine and reinstall it if the appliance turns on but won't shred or slice. The disc has two sides; the blade is raised on one side. Slide the disc onto the middle stem of the food processor so the raised-blade side faces up. The machine will not do its job if the smooth side faces up.
Give your KitchenAid food processor time to cool down if it overheats while tackling a lengthy job. You'll recognise overheating because your appliance will begin to work and then suddenly stop while still in the "On" position. KitchenAid suggests waiting 15 minutes before turning the appliance on again.
Call KitchenAid's warranty department if you've followed troubleshooting steps and your food processor still won't work.
