How to Rewire the Xbox Racing Wheel With a USB
Male USB Plug (blue usb image by Warren Millar from Fotolia.com)

One of the great things about Microsoft's Xbox controllers is that they are all USB compatible, although older ones need a slight bit of tweaking. This is the case for the racing wheel. Luckily, the wiring for all the controllers are the same. The process involves cutting and sealing wires, and if you do not follow the instructions carefully you could permanently damage the device.

Instructions

  1. 1

Cut the plug off at the end of the Xbox racing wheel cord. This is what went into the Xbox console.

  2. 2

Cut off the male head of the USB cord along with at least 5 inches of the cord still attached. This plug looks like those used by USB devices to plug into your computer or laptop.

  3. 3

Strip 1 inch of both cords at the ends to expose the wires.

  4. 4

Strip the coloured and covered wires to expose the copper. Do this for both cords.

  5. 5

Take each wire and twist them together with the wire of corresponding colour on the other cord.

  6. 6

Seal each wire separately with electrical tape.

  7. 7

Seal all of the wires together with electrical tape to combine the two cords.

Tips and warnings

  • You will also have to download drivers for your computer to register the racing wheel. Please see the link under Resources for the needed drivers.
