The file extension .VCR signifies a very specific type of video file that has been recorded using an ATI Technologies computer video card. These cards are capable of acting like a traditional home digital video recorder and recording television programs that your computer is picking up via a TV tuner. If you want to play one of these .VCR files on your computer, you'll need to use the ATI Technologies Multimedia Center software that came with the video card.

Skill level:

  1. 1

Click "Start" and open the ATI Multimedia Center software by selecting its icon in the "ATI" folder of your "All Programs" menu.

  2. 2

Click on the icon for your .VCR file that you want to play.

  3. 3

Drag the .VCR file over the top of the open ATI Multimedia Center window. The .VCR file will now begin to play in the ATI Multimedia Center program window.
