A RAR file, like the more common ZIP file extension, is a compressed archive. RAR folders shrink multiple files into a smaller, more portable single file for transportation and distribution. To view and use the contents of a RAR file, you need a compression utility compatible with the format. These utilities can uncompress multiple RAR files and then combine them into one archive file. While many utilities can uncompress a RAR file, very few can create them. If you need to combine multiple files back into the RAR format, use WinRAR. If you don't mind combining the RAR files into a single ZIP, TAR or 7Z archive file, use 7-Zip.
