Replacing or cleaning the pickup rollers helps increase the life and productivity of your HP LaserJet P3005. The pickup roller is designed to pick up one piece of paper at a time and feed it through the machine to start the print process. If it picks up more than one piece of paper, it will jam the machine. If it doesn't pick up at all, the sensors will detect that paper hasn't reached them in a certain amount of time and also report a jam error.

  1. 1

Power off and unplug the printer. Pull out tray 2 until it stops. Lift up on the tray while pulling to remove it from the printer.

  2. 2

Tip the printer over on its back end so you can see the pickup roller. Rotate the bushings so it is facing down; the bushings are the white plastic pieces at each end of the shaft of the pickup roller.

  3. 3

Slide the left bushing to the left to free it from the pickup roller shaft and put it aside. Slide the pickup roller and shaft to the left to free it from the right bushing. Installation is the reverse of the dissembling instructions.
