How to Update Card Reader for SDHC

Secure Digital High Capacity (SDHC) memory cards look the same as regular SD cards, but they are capable of storing much more data. SDHC cards fit into any SD card reader, but it doesn't mean that they are compatible with your reader. Many older computers and external card readers can't read SDHC cards until a free Windows update is performed.

Open a web browser on your computer and navigate to the SDHC update page on the Microsoft support site (see Resources).

  2. 2

Click "Continue" on the installation page to run the "Validation Tool," which checks your system to make sure that you're downloading the correct version for your Windows operating system. A validation code will be provided once the verification is complete. Write down the code and close the "Validation Tool."
