Semi-permanent hair colour doesn't last as long as permanent hair colours. The layers of colour are washed away every time you shampoo until all the colour is washed out. Normally, the semi-permanent hair colour can last for months, but you can extend the life of your semi-permanent hair colour if you take good care of it.

Instructions

  1. 1

Leave the semi-permanent hair colour on your hair after application for a longer period. You can leave it for six hours without causing damage to your hair. Semi-permanent hair colours are actually rich with conditioner so it will not leave your hair dry. Leaving the semi-permanent hair colour for a longer period of time will let the colour last longer.

  2. 2

Rinse your hair with vinegar to raise the PH level of the colour. This will help the colour last longer.

  3. 3

Wash your hair with shampoo until the smell of the vinegar is removed.

  4. 4

Condition your hair after shampooing. You can add one to two tablespoons of the semi-permanent hair colour to your favourite conditioner to replenish the colour that will be washed out when you shampoo.

  5. 5

Cover your hair with an umbrella, hat or scarf when you are under the sun. Constant exposure to the sun tends to lighten the hair colour.

Tips and warnings

  • After taking a dip in the pool, wash your hair with fresh water to remove any traces of chlorine. Chlorine strips off the semi-permanent colour.
