The Sony DAV-SB100 is a home theatre system with many advanced, programmable features. It is also designed with sensors that allow it to protect itself from situations -- such as overheating, or being connected to the wrong kind of speakers -- that might damage it. Like any computerised device, it can fall prey to memory errors that cause it to lock up. In case of malfunction, the DAV-SB100's main stereo unit can be reset to factory defaults.

Tips and warnings

  • If the DVD player simply isn't playing discs, make sure there's a valid disc in the player and that the laser doesn't need cleaning before you reset the unit.
  • As you're resetting the remote, make sure none of the buttons is stuck down. This can cause the remote to ignore other button commands.
  • It's a good idea to replace the remote batteries, so you can eliminate low battery power as a cause of the problem.
  • Make sure the DVD player is turned off before you unplug it from the wall. Failure to do so can damage the unit.
  • Never unplug the DVD player while a disc is in the drive. Even if the disc isn't playing, it is spinning, so unplugging the unit could cause the disc to jam or be damaged.
