How to Add Emoticons to Microsoft Communicator
Emoticons are intended to make instant messaging more like real-life conversations. (Four smileys image by George Dolgikh from Fotolia.com)

Microsoft Office Communicator is a business-oriented instant-messaging program that's similar to Microsoft Messenger. However, it includes several additional features designed for a business environment, such as VoIP (Voice-over Internet Protocol) and video conferencing services. Emoticons (sometimes called "smileys") are small images of facial expressions that are used to express a writers feelings. In instant messaging, they act as a substitute for the facial cues that would occur in a face-to-face conversation. To have the ability to use emoticons in Microsoft Office Communicator, you must turn the feature on.
