The .hpk file extension is associated with HPack, an archive and compression utility. An archive utility compresses multiple files into a single archive that takes up less space for easier transportation and storage. The utility can then open the archive to restore the files to their original formats. HPack is platform independent, meaning it can run on any platform. The HPack utility is outdated as of 2010, so it should be used only for opening old archives. For compressing new files and creating archives, use a newer utility.

  1. 1

Double-click the file with the .hpk extension. Your operating system should open the archive. If not, proceed to the next step.

  2. 2

Right-click on the .hpk file and select "HPack" from the "Open With" menu to open the file with HPack. If HPack isn't in the list, proceed to the next step.

  3. 3

Open the .hpk file with another archiving utility such as WinZIP, WinRAR or Archive Utility. WinZip and WinRAR for Windows can be purchased and downloaded online, while Archive Utility is included in OS X for Mac. These utility programs can open most file types. To open the file with any utility, right-click on the .hpk file and select the name of the program from the "Open With" menu.
