Use a dermatological product or skin care product with retinoid or retinol in the formula. These products are often used to reduce the size of the pores, but they also work to unclog anything trapped inside your skin.

  2. 2

Cover your face with a clay mask, preferably one that incorporates sulfur into the mixture. You can find these masks from most drugstores or pharmacies. When the mask is peeled off or wiped off, it takes away anything trapped inside the pores with it.

  3. 3

Purchase a mandelic acid product to use on your pores. This acid is used in a number of creams and lotions that can be rubbed into the skin or used for spot treatments. The acid forces out any dirt or debris inside the skin.

  4. 4

Apply moisturizer several times a day, but make sure you use a moisturizer that doesn't include oil of any type. Hydrated or moisturized skin is less likely to become clogged than dry or oily skin. In addition the moisturizer helps seal off the skin and pushes out any dirt.

  5. 5

Do a steam treatment for your pores by filling a large pot with boiling water. Cover your face with a towel and lean over the top of the pot so that the towel covers your face and the pot. Breathe in the steam for several minutes, giving it time to take effect. The steam will force out any of the gunk clogged in your pores.

Tips and warnings

  • Always make sure you wash your face before going to sleep at night and that you remove all traces of your makeup. This can easily get trapped inside your pores.
  • Don't use oily products on your skin as this can clog the pores and cause your skin to dry out. In some cases it can also cause your pores to look larger.
