Sony Bravia, like many flat panel televisions, has internal speakers. Your Bravia TV also has optical digital outputs for you to link the built-in tuner with an outboard audio system. If your Bravia TV has malfunctioning sound, you can troubleshoot the problem by navigating the on-screen graphic menu.

Skill level:
Moderately Easy

  1. 1

Turn on the Bravia using the remote control. Press the "Home" key, located just under the centre directional keys.

  2. 2

Scroll all the way to the leftmost menu using the directional keys. Scroll down and select "Audio Options." Press "Select."

  3. 3

Examine the options given. "Speakers" has two choices: "Audio System" and "TV Speakers." Select "Audio System" if you have an outboard audio system. Select "TV Speakers" if you are using the internal speakers.

  4. 4

Highlight the "Audio Out" option. Select "Variable" if you control the audio with the TV's volume control on sets with either internal or external speakers. Select "Fixed" if you only control the volume by an outboard audio system.

Tips and warnings

  • Double-check that you have an audio input of some type connected to the television.
