All QuickBooks software comes with a 30-day grace period of use before registration becomes necessary with its manufacturer, Intuit. The purchase of the QuickBooks software includes registration, but there may be one or more reasons for wanting to eliminate the need for registration, such as if your QuickBooks software has become corrupted, you lack a connection to the Internet or you purchased software that was already registered to another company. Whatever the reason, there is a way to eliminate the registration, even if it is a little inconvenient.

Save a backup copy of your QuickBooks company file onto a flash drive or CD-ROM. You do this by clicking on the "File" button in the top menu bar and scrolling down to "Make Copy or Backup." Follow the prompts you are given to indicate where you wish to save this backup. Click on the small arrow that is next to the blank box and the folders indicating the different locations on your computer will open. Find the flash drive or CD-ROM and click on it and then click "Ok." When it has finished, set this backup copy aside for use later. If this is a new copy of the software, you can wait until the 30-day time limit is up or close to being up and the warning screen pops up that won't allow you access to the QuickBooks program.
Click on the "Start" button in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on "Control Panel." When the "Control Panel" opens, find the "Add/Remove" button and scroll down to find the installation of QuickBooks. Click on the "Change/Add" button and then on "Uninstall QuickBooks."
Repeat this process to continue removing all Intuit programs that were automatically installed onto your computer system. When all the programs have been uninstalled, insert the QuickBooks Installation CD, not the company file CD, into the computer.
Reinstall QuickBooks. If you are using the installation CD, make sure you have the original envelope the disc came in as the product identification and serial number will be printed on the back with a bright yellow sticker. If you downloaded the software directly from Intuit, this solution may not work for you, and you will need to contact the QuickBooks Customer service line if it doesn't. For those that downloaded the software, the product identification and serial number would have been sent to you in an e-mail.
Follow the prompts during installation process. Whether you used the installation disc or downloaded the software, the process is identical in the installation phase. It can take as long as 20 to 30 minutes to complete the installation. When the process is complete, do not start a new company or start the "Easy Step Interview."
Click on the "File" button in the top menu bar. Scroll down and click on the "Restore Backup" button. When the window pops up prompting you for the location from which to open the backup file, look for the location of the file in either the flash drive or the CD-ROM. Click on that location and open that file.
You will then be prompted for the location to which to save the new working copy; choose either your desktop or an external hard drive. Click "Ok." The registration should now be reset to its original 30-day countdown.
