A PDF (portable document format) file, is a word file created by Adobe. PDFs are popular because they will display a word file the exact same way regardless of software or hardware. There is a secondary function to the PDF. Such elements of PDF files as images, text and links cannot be traditionally copied, making it difficult to plagiarise. For this reason ebooks, academic papers, or other licensed material are often distributed in PDF. However there are ways to unlock a PDF.

Instructions

  1. 1

Go to a website that offers PDF unlocking services. Entering into your search engine a phrase such as "unlock PDFs" will provide you with several options.

  2. 2

Upload the file you want to unlock and click the "unlock" button. If you are prompted for a password, type it. Download the file when you are prompted and open it in a PDF reader. You will then be able to edit the file, and extract text and images.

  3. 3

Download and install a program called PDF unlocker or a similiar name if you do not have the password to the PDF file. Drag and drop the password-protected PDF file into the PDF unlocker desktop icon and it will automatically unlock the file.
