How to Dispose of TV Tubes

Updated February 21, 2017

Old TV tubes can be very dangerous to the environment because they contain lead, chromium and mercury. If you have an old TV tube that you need to get rid of, the last thing you want to do is throw it in the trash. The components on the inside of the tube could lead to the contamination of water sources or the death of an animal. Recycling the TV tube is the best way to dispose of it safely.

Find a recycling centre in your area by contacting your local waste disposal office. Check your city's website for contact information including addresses, phone numbers and e-mail addresses.

Wrap the tube in a blanket so it is not damaged while transporting it to a recycling centre.

Take the tube to the recycling centre to have it recycled.

Donate the TV tube to a local appliance store if the tube is still working.

Donate the tube to a charity or a thrift store in your area for future use if it is still working.
