How to Replace Toner Cartridges on the HP LaserJet 2420

Updated February 21, 2017

Whether you use your HP LaserJet 2420 printer at work or at home, knowing how to change the toner cartridge is essential. When the print begins to fade and the printout quality deteriorates, changing the toner cartridge restores the quality of the prints. Changing the toner cartridge on a LaserJet 2420 is not difficult, but it is important to use the appropriate technique.

Locate the small latch on the front door of the printer. Pull the latch to open the door and gain access to the toner cartridge.

Grasp the used toner cartridge by the handle and carefully lift it out of the printer. Set the toner cartridge aside for recycling.

Open the box containing the new toner cartridge and remove any packing materials used to protect the cartridge during shipment. Grasp the toner cartridge by the handle and lower it into the printer until it locks into place. Close the front door of the printer. The front door will not close if the toner cartridge is not properly inserted.

Place the used toner cartridge in the box and tape it shut. Affix the prepaid shipping label that came with the new toner, and use it to send the used cartridge back for recycling.
