How to Repair C Windows System32 Config System

Your Windows system 32 config folder contains a number of files that are very critical to the proper functioning of your windows operating system. If any of these files were to be tampered with in any negative way or damaged, there can be some disastrous outcomes for your operating system. Fortunately, Microsoft has a number of these files as backups on your system, which through the recovery console can be used to replace the damaged files.

    Place your Windows OS disk in your CD drive.

    Restart your computer.

  3. 3

    Look for the prompt "Press any key to boot from CD" and press the "Space Bar" key. The "Welcome to Setup" screen opens.

    Press "R" on your keyboard.

  5. 5

    Enter your admin password when you are prompted to do so. The "Recovery Console" opens. You are now at the command prompt.

    Type the following commands in the "Recovery Console" and press "Enter":

    md tmp

    copy c:\windows\system32\config\system c:\windows\tmp\system.bak

    copy c:\windows\system32\config\software c:\windows\tmp\software.bak

    copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak

    copy c:\windows\system32\config\security c:\windows\tmp\security.bak

    copy c:\windows\system32\config\default c:\windows\tmp\default.bak

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\system

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\software

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\sam

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\security

    delete c:\windows\system32\config\default

    copy c:\windows\repair\system c:\windows\system32\config\system

    copy c:\windows\repair\software c:\windows\system32\config\software

    copy c:\windows\repair\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam

    copy c:\windows\repair\security c:\windows\system32\config\security

    copy c:\windows\repair\default c:\windows\system32\config\default

  7. 7

    Type "Exit" to exit the Recovery Console and restart your computer.
