How to fix a dry throat

A dry, scratchy throat can develop with a chronic cough, cold or allergies. Signs of a dry throat include pain, and you may have difficulty swallowing foods and beverages. Quick ways to soothe a dry throat include natural at-home remedies and OTC products. If left untreated, a dry throat can worsen.

Add salt to warm water and gargle. Include a pinch or teaspoon of salt in an 236ml. glass of water to fix a sore, dry throat associated with common conditions like colds, sinusitis and allergies.

Get rid of dry air to help your throat. A humidifier in your home adds water or moisture to the air.

Experiment with herbal teas. Hot herbal teas can help soothe a dry, sore throat. Add a little lemon juice or honey for flavour.

Chew gum. Increasing saliva in your mouth is another method to remedy a dry throat. Keep a pack of gum handy if you deal with a persistent dry, scratchy throat.

Use OTC products such as cough drops. Throat lozenges and cough drops include ingredients to help remedy a sore throat, and sucking on both products increase the production of saliva.
