How to Make Your Own Model Boat
Make a model boat out of craft supplies. (toy pirate boat image by Tomasz Cebo from Fotolia.com)

If you are interested in creating a simple model boat that will actually sail on water, but do not want to spend a great deal of money on a pre-made kit, you can create a boat out of basic materials purchased at any craft supply store. Once you have completed your model boat, paint it with waterproof paint.

Instructions

  1. 1

Place an 8x4-inch piece of press board vertically on a flat surface.

  2. 2

Squeeze a line of hot glue along both of the long sides of the rectangle.

  3. 3

Press the other two 8x4 pieces onto the hot glue, arranging them so that one long edge lines up with the hot glue on either side at 120-degree angles.

Allow the hot glue to cool completely.

  5. 5

Squeeze a line of hot glue around the perimeter of a 4-inch triangle.

  6. 6

Press the triangle onto one end of the boat, angling it out at a 120-degree angle.

  7. 7

Allow the glue to cool completely.

  8. 8

Repeat this process with the second 4-inch triangle, gluing it to to opposite end of the boat.

  9. 9

Allow the glue to cool completely.

  10. 10

Squeeze a dollop of hot glue into the middle of the boat.

  11. 11

Press a half-inch dowel into the hot glue, arranging the dowel so it stands up vertically.

  12. 12

Allow the glue to cool completely.

  13. 13

Paint the boat with waterproof paint to suit your personal style.

  14. 14

Allow the paint to dry completely.

  15. 15

Squeeze a line of hot glue along one side of an 8-inch triangle of fabric.

  16. 16

Press the glued side of the triangle fabric piece along the length of the dowel.
