How do I Use Damiana?
Damiana tea is one way to use damiana leaves. (tea image by Horticulture from Fotolia.com)

The Mayan Indians used damiana to treat lung disorders, dizziness, vertigo and as an aphrodisiac. Diamiana has been used to treat male impotency, female menopause symptoms and infertility in both males and females.

The best source of dried damiana leaves is probably a bulk herb store or a health food store with a large dried herb selection. Most bulk herb stores also carry the other herb ingredients listed.

Instructions

  1. 1

Put 1/4 cup dried damiana leaves in the filter-lined coffee basket of a drip action coffee pot.

  2. 2

Add 5 cups of water to the pot and brew. When all the water has dripped through the basket, remove the carafe from the burner.

  3. 3

Set aside 236ml of the tea to drink and store the rest in a glass pitcher with a lid. Refrigerate the remaining tea. Damiana has a rather bitter taste, so you may add honey and lemon to the tea to make it more palatable. Tea may be consumed at any desired temperature.

  4. 4

Drink 1 cup of tea per day for two to three weeks to improve male or female fertility and sexual desire.

  1. 1

Combine one tablespoon each of chamomile, damiana leaves, lemon grass and spearmint or peppermint leaves. Add 1/4 teaspoon each of jasmine leaves and grated orange peel.

  2. 2

Simmer the herbs for 15 minutes in 2 cups of water.

  3. 3

Strain the tea and serve hot. You may add honey if you wish.

  1. 1

Mix one ounce of damiana leaves, two tablespoons each of saw palmetto berries and angelica root, and four teaspoons of vanilla pods. Add the mixed herbs to one and a half pints of whiskey.

  2. 2

Soak for one week. Strain the mixture through cheesecloth and bottle the liquid.

  3. 3

Add the herbs to a pint and half of distilled water and soak for another week. Strain the mix and dispose of the herbs.

  4. 4

Heat the distilled water liquid on low. When the water is hot, but not boiling, add a cup of honey and stir until the honey dissolves.

  5. 5

Allow the liquid to cool until it is merely warm before adding to the whiskey mix. Store the bottle in a dark, cool place and allow to age for one month.

One ounce of cordial per day for several weeks will improve sexual performance and satisfaction.

  1. 1

Take one ounce of powdered muira puama bark, three ounces of powdered panax ginseng root, two ounces of powdered Siberian ginseng root, two ounces of powdered damiana leaves and six ounces of powdered mint (spearmint or peppermint) leaves. Blend together in a bowl, using a pestle if necessary to make a smooth powder.

  2. 2

Fill empty glycerine capsules, available in bulk herb stores, with enough mix to fill the smaller half of the capsule. Store the capsules in a cool, dry area.

  3. 3

Take three capsules twice a day to improve sexual performance. Results may take several weeks to be obvious and continued use is safe and effective.
