Designers often use symbols, such as the copyright or registered trademark characters, within promotional art. The GNU Image Manipulation Program, or GIMP, facilitates this by allowing you to add symbols directly into the GIMP Text Editor instead of selecting them from a menu. To do this, you must enter the character's Unicode number. These numbers are cross-platform codes that describe every supported character, including foreign letters, geometric shapes and commonly used symbols.
