Making your own model boats is not difficult, particularly because you can use a wide variety of materials. If you want your model boat to float, the best material is sponge. Wooden or plastic models require more calculation to ensure they are less dense than water and will float.
- Skill level:
Things you need
- Grouting sponge (large)
- Sponge (regular)
- Multipurpose glue
Cut a large grouting sponge into a boat shape by cutting an elliptical shape at the front of the sponge. Leave the back square.
Cut a regular sponge into a rectangular shape that fits on top of the grouting sponge, about 4 inches by 3 inches or smaller.
Cut a triangle from any of the remaining scraps of sponge. The triangle should be no bigger than 1 inch on each leg.
Glue the rectangular piece of sponge on top of the boat base made of the grouting sponge.
Stick a toothpick into one leg of the triangular sponge, then attach it to the top of the rectangular shaped sponge. The sponge model boat with a flag will be ready to float.
