How to Make Your Own Lamp Kits

A lamp kit consists of an assembled apparatus including a light socket, base and cord. Lamps require different types of assemblies to hold the light socket in place. A mason jar lamp does not use the same assembly as a basket lamp or an oil lamp conversion. Create a lamp kit at home to fit a particular item. A good example is a light kit for mason jars.

Measure the diameter of the hole in the light socket. Drill a hole through the centre of the zinc lid to correspond with the measurement.

Use a wire stripper to strip half an inch of insulation off the two wire ends of the lamp cord.

Slide the housing off the bottom of the lamp socket. Twist the silver wire to the silver screw and tighten with a screwdriver. Twist the other wire to the brass screw. Tighten with a screwdriver. Slip the light socket housing back in place.

Remove the nut from the bottom of the light socket post. Insert the lamp socket post through the hole on the zinc lid. Secure it in place with the nut.
